2501 Richmond is an unusally controversial mixed-use brownfield development proposed by Minto on the former site of Viscount Bennett High School in Southwest Calgary.
The original proposal sought to build of 2,500 housing units,[1] and received significant opposition from the local community, including a lawn sign campaign to reject the redevelopment entirely. The Richmond Knob Hill CA suggested using the site for greenspace, or single-detached development instead.[2]
Responding to community pressure, Minto announced a revised site plan in Summer of 2024, reducing the possible housing capacity by half.
The [[land use]] redesignation proposal is currently under review, and open for comment, with a Planning Commission decision date to be announced.[3]
