We’re looking for writers interested in writing copies for future posts! If you’re not familiar with the term, copy basically just refers to the title and description that go along with our content.
When we’ve got a large backlog of short videos awaiting this step in the process, it can be overwhelming for the person responsible for posting. Doing these little write-ups are a quick and simple way that you can get involved in the production process here at Unsprawling!
How to find posts awaiting copy
We’ve got a nifty new Unsprawling Kanban board on our file-sharing and project management backend system. (If you’ve got a creative way to describe our Nextcloud… please do let me know)
Go make an account over there, click on the “Deck” app, and check for cards in the “Copywriting” column!
https://cloud.no-bs.ca/apps/deck/board/12
There should be a link to the video file inside the “Attachments” when you click on the card. Feel free to write your copy directly into the “Details” tab, and move it over into the “Posting” column when you’re done!
How to write Unsprawling copy
Use our existing posts to get an idea of what’s expected — just follow that basic structure and write something descriptive about the video! https://www.instagram.com/unsprawling/reels/
- Title (~50-100 chars) - super quick summary, evokes emotion, easy to understand
- 1 or 2 small paragraphs Describe the key message of the video, perhaps ask the viewer a question, or call their action to something
- Hashtags #yyc calgary #urbanism and any main keywords for the video that haven’t been covered already in the title or description
Don’t worry about getting it perfect! I can always do some quick adjustments before it goes live, but even a lil sumn sumn is very helpful.
Replies to this topic will be used as working space! Go check if there’s anything that interests you, and reply!
Why is copy important?
Good, descriptive copy helps people (and robots!) understand the content of our video. It can reinforce new information for viewers, or direct them to a course of action.
It’s good form to write titles and descriptions that are engaging, and include relevant keywords to the video, so that search engines and algorithms can bring our video to the folks who are most likely to enjoy it!
