More Neighbours Calgary

More Neighbours Calgary is a nonpartisan grassroots advocacy organization dedicated to promoting policy solutions to Calgary’s housing crisis. The organization advocates for a broad profile of zoning reforms, building code reforms, and non-market reforms — arguing that all forms of housing should be available in all communities.[1]

The organization has amassed several hundred followers—primarily on Discord, and social media platforms—who are encouraged to advocate directly to city councillors online, at public engagements, and public hearings.

History

The organization was founded by Kathryn Davies and Willem Klumpenhouwer, inspired by More Neighbours Toronto. The organization formed in response to city council’s rejection of the Housing Affordability Task Force (HATF) Recommendations in June 2023.[2]

Since their inception, More Neighbours Calgary has organized public support campaigns for The City of Calgary’s Housing Strategy, and Rezoning for Housing, as well as encouraging members to engage in their Local Area Planning processes, or other community development debates.
