Land Use District

A land use district (alternatively called a zone) is a category within the Land Use Bylaw determining what developments and activities are permitted, discretionary, or prohibited on a given parcel. Our current Land Use Bylaw includes 63 such defined zones, as well as the ability to enter a Direct Control agreement with the City.

Zones are often referred to in short by zoning codes, acronyms designed to briefly communicate the intent of a zone — the letters before the dash indicate the broad category of the zone (e.g. R = Residential, CC = Centre City) and the letters after the dash indicate the purpose of the zone (e.g. S-SPR = Special Purpose - School, Park, and Community Reserve District).
