Rezoning for Housing

Rezoning for Housing (officially Bylaw 21P2024) is an amendment of the City of Calgary Land Use Bylaw approved by City Council to enact recommendations from the City’s Housing Strategy.[1] Effective August 6, 2024[2] the bylaw consolidated low-density residential land use districts, making R-CG the base zone citywide.

Considered “Calgary’s biggest housing controversy,”[3] the 9-6 vote of Council on May 14, 2024,[4] ended a Public Hearing Meeting of Council that began on April 22, 2024 — easily becoming the longest Public Hearing in Calgary’s history.[5]
